Significance

(+)-Epicalyxin F and (+)-calyxin F are members of a family of polyphenolic natural products isolated from Alpinia blepharocalyx. This synthesis is notable for establishing the correct absolute configuration of (+)-epicalyxin F which is (3S,5S,7R) and is an epimer of (+)-calyxin F at the 5- and 7-position.
