Significance

Panaxytriol was isolated from the Eastern Asian plant Panax ginseng. It shows inhibitory activity against a very broad range of human tumor cell lines. The focal step of the synthesis is a relay metathesis and metallotropic [1,3]-shift in D followed by cross-metathesis with alkene E.
