Significance
(-)-Platensimycin was isolated from a strain of Streptomyces platensis. It belongs to a new structural class of antibiotics that inhibits bacterial biosynthesis of fatty acids through binding to the acyl-enzyme intermediate of the elongation-condensing enzyme FabF. For the completion of the synthesis of (-)-platensimycin from the intermediate H, see: K. C. Nicolaou, A. Li, D. J. Edmonds Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 2006, 45, 7086.
