Significance
3-Substituted oxindoles possess various important biological activities. Direct arylation of oxindoles, reported here for the first time, is a convenient and straightforward way of their synthesis, especially while making compound libraries. Aryl chlorides, bromides and triflates can be successfully used as arylating agents. Arylation reaction in the presence of air gives directly C-3-hydroxylated aryl derivatives in excellent yields.
