syn-2-Substituted 1,3-dithiane 1-oxides and 2-substituted 1,3-dithiane anti-1,3-dioxides may be efficiently prepared with high enantiomeric excess from 2-substituted 1,3-dithianes via 2-substituted 2-acyl-1,3-dithiane 1-oxides by a three-step procedure (acylation, mono- or bissulphoxidation and deacylation).
