γ-Hydroxyalkyl allyl stannanes and -silanes lead selectively to a large variety of products depending upon the reagent used (BF3.OEt2 or thionyl chloride). Suitable combination allows the synthesis of vinyl cyclopropane carboxylic acids including chrysanthemic acid, the constituent of the most potent commercially available pyrethroid insecticide.
