Rh-Catalyzed Synthesis of Sterically Hindered Diarylketones

Significance

The authors describe an efficient cross-coupling of aromatic aldehydes and potassium aryltrifluoroborates enabling access to sterically demanding diarylketones from aromatic aldehydes and potassium aryltrifluoroborates in good to excellent yields. Reacting alkenyltrifluoroborates does not yield the expected α,β-unsaturated ketone but a saturated product.
