Significance
Ring-opening reactions with various nucleophiles are known with several transition metals including rhodium and palladium. Specifically, the ring opening with amines of N-Boc-azabenzonorbornadienes with amines has been developed by Lautens and co-workers (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2006, 128, 6837). This report utilizes a simple, air-stable, iridium/BINAP-based system to accomplish this transformation to provide useful trans-1,2-diamines.
