Significance
Saliniketals A and B are ornithine decarboxylase (ODC) inhibitors isolated from the marine actinomycete Salinispora arenicola. ODC hyperactivity is a marker of tumorigenesis and is often observed in epithelial tumors of the prostate, stomach, skin and colon. The Paterson synthesis is accomplished with high stereoselectivity from four very simple fragments (A, B, G and K).
