Significance
The oxygenation of primary amines 2 took place in the presence of Ru(OH)x/Al2O3 catalyst 1 (5 mol% of Ru) in water under air to give the corresponding primary amides 3 in up to 92% yield (11 examples). After the reaction, the catalyst 1 was readily removed from the reaction mixture by simple filtration and reused without significant loss of its catalytic activity (83% yield of isolated benzamide 3a).
