Significance
Yang and Birman report that the 1,2,4-triazole anion is an acyl transfer catalyst. The acetylation proved to be effective for amines, alcohols and oxazolidinones. This catalyst is also suitable for transesterification as well as for aminolysis, where unactivated esters can be transformed into the corresponding products. Mechanistic alternatives have been investigated.
