Significance

Bottromycin is an antibiotic against methicillin-resistant staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and vancomycin-resistant enterococci (VRE). It has a novel mode of action: it inhibits bacterial protein synthesis by blocking the binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to the A site on the 50S ribosome. No cross resistance to existing drugs has been observed.
