Significance
Apoptolidin A selectively induces apoptosis in rat ganglia cells transformed with the adenovirus E1A oncogene. The Crimmins group synthesized apoptolidin A from four key fragments (B, C, D, E) using glycosidation, cross-metathesis and macrolactonization fragment linkage reactions. The order of fragment linkage is delineated in the scheme.
