Significance
(-)-Dysibetaine was isolated from the Micronesian sponge Dysidea herbacea. The compound exhibits potential neuroexcitotoxin activity. The featured step of the synthesis is the 4-center/3-component Ugi reaction (A → F). For a synthesis of racemic dysibetaine using a simillar approach, see: Y. Kobayashi and co-workers Org. Lett. 2008, 10, 1461.
