Significance

Regio- and stereoselective allylic substitution of (Z)-allylic picolinate esters was used twice in this synthesis of the active form of loxoprofen. Kobayashi and co-workers showed that the method is general for the reaction of aryl and alkenyl copper reagents derived from Grignard reagents (J. Org. Chem. 2009, 74, 1939).
