Significance
Hopeanol, isolated from Hopea exalata, is cytotoxic against a variety of tumor cells. Hopeanol is believed to be the biosynthetic precursor to hopeahainol A, which is a micromolar inhibitor of acetylcholinesterase (its synthesis is also presented in the article, one step from F). The series of quite efficient cascade reactions led to racemic hopeanol in good yield.
