Significance
The authors demonstrated the use of commercial Pd- and Ni-NHC complexes as catalysts for performing a mild and selective anaerobic oxidation of secondary alcohols into ketones with chlorobenzene as an oxidant. The reaction can be carried out at room temperature. For the first time, the use of an inexpensive nickel catalyst is described for this useful synthetic transformation.
