Significance
In a number of current and emerging fluorescence applications it is desirable to create systems capable of having a large Stokes shift between the absorption and emission. One of the main interests is to create concentrated chromophoric systems that will not reabsorb their own emission, which leads to lower efficiencies in the bulk emission. The demethylated materials synthesized undergo ESIPT and display 145 nm Stokes shifts.
