Significance
Dihydroquinolinones comprise a ubiquitous motif in biologically relevant molecules. A synthesis of 3,4-dihydroquinolin-2-ones through a radical 6-exo-trig cyclization is described herein. Although analogous radical syntheses exist, the authors explore axial chirality transfer in the asymmetric variant of the reaction. Thorough examination of the kinetics of substrate racemization as well as X-ray crystal structure analyses of substrates and products are also presented.
