Significance
Copper(II) acetate is shown to be a versatile and cheap catalyst for the selective N-monoalkylation of poorly nucleophilic amines and sulfonamides. This new methodology for the synthesis of primary and secondary amines uses a low-cost and commercially available catalyst and has a broad substrate scope.
