Significance

This synthesis of E-α-haloenones complements previous work by Zhang and co-workers to furnish Z-α-halonenones (Org. Lett. 2007, 9, 2147). High E-selectivity is obtained for most substrates, except those bearing alkyl substituents and electron-rich aromatic groups.
