Significance
A novel convoluted polymeric phosphotungstate catalyst 1 bearing a poly(ethylene oxide pyridinium) matrix was prepared for the oxidation of secondary alcohols. Thus, the oxidation of 2-decanol (2a) was carried out with tungsten of 1 and H2O2 to give 2-decanone (3a) in 96% yield. A variety of alcohols, including sterically demanding neopentyl alcohols, were applicable to the catalytic system to afford the corresponding ketones in 87-99% yield.
