Significance
The authors report the synthesis of 5,12-dicyanonaphthacene and 6,13-dicyanopentacene. Responsible for significantly lowering LUMO levels, cyanation of the peri-positions is not facile due to the inherent synthetic difficulty of accessing substituted polyacene structures. DC-NAP and DC-PEN are also noteworthy targets for their simplicity, not requiring further substituents for increased air stability.
