Significance
Viridiofungins are secondary metabolites isolated from the fungi Trichoderma viride and belong to the alkyl citrate family of compounds. They demonstrate potent fungicidal activity which is due to multiple modes of action. These natural products may also have anti-cancer activity. The synthesis of the triesters of the natural and nonnatural diastereomers of viridiofungin A, A2 and A4 is reported.
