Significance

Highly rigid sintered polyethylene-chips-supported palladium, rhodium and ruthenium complexes 1-3 were prepared, and their catalytic activities for Suzuki reaction, hydroformylation and olefin metathesis were evaluated. Palladium complex 1 catalyzed the coupling reaction of aryl bromides and aryl boronic acids to give the corresponding biaryls in good yields (eq 1). Hydroformylation of methallylphthalimide took place in the presence of rhodium complex 2 to furnish an aldehyde in quantitative yield (eq 2). Ring-closing metathesis of various dienes with ruthenium complex 3 afforded the cyclic products in moderate to excellent yields (eq 3). Catalysts 1 and 2 were recovered and reused without significant loss of catalytic activity (1: 96-98% yield for five times; 2: >98% yield for three times), whereas the catalytic activity of 3 gradually decreased.
