Significance

This work represents a practical method to perform a one-pot reduction-silylation of carbonyl compounds, leading to silyl ethers. The process does not require any solvent and therefore the product isolation is quite simple. The catalyst loading is very low (0.1 mol%) and its preparation does not present significant problems. Besides, it can be recovered from the reaction mixture by simple filtration, although its activity was shown to drop significantly. Other silanes like PhSiMe2H can also be used instead of Et3SiH.
