Significance
Using a [RuCl2(p-cymene)]2/BINOL/xanthene-derived diphosphonite catalyst system, unprecedented enantioselectivity is demonstrated for the transfer hydrogenation of a variety of ketones. This catalyst system affords secondary chiral alcohols with excellent enantioselectivity for aryl/alkyl ketones, and previously unreported very good to excellent selectivity for dialkyl ketones.
