Significance

Ecteinascidin 743 is a marine natural product that is in phase II/III clinical trials for the treatment of endometrian, ovarian and breast cancer. It was synthesized previously by E. J. Corey et al. (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 1996, 118, 9202-9203) and T. Fukuyama and co-workers (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2002, 124, 6552-6554).
