Significance

This method is one of the most versatile for the enantioselective preparation of polysubstituted homoallylic alcohols and, in general, for the formation of all-carbon quaternary centers. The enantiopurity of the created quaternary centers is extremely high and is not dependent on the relative size of the substituents. Up to four different substituents can be introduced enantioselectively in only three synthetic steps. This reaction represents a highly valuable new method in the synthesis of natural products and complex biologically active compounds.
