Significance

(+)-β-Erythroidine is a non-aromatic dienoid-type Erythrina alkaloid. The first total synthesis of (+)-β-erythroidine is reported wherein the quaternary stereocenter is installed using a Lewis acid catalyzed cyclization and the erythrinan skeleton is constructed via ring-closing metathesis of a dienyne.
