Significance
A new protocol for the immobilization of ruthenium-benzylidene complexes by polymeric perfluorocarboxylic acid was described. Thus, polymer-supported perfluorocarboxylic acid 2 was prepared from 4-bromopolystyrene 1 via metal-halogen exchange with i-Pr(n-Bu)2MgLi and subsequent treatment with hexafluoroglutaric anhydride. Vacuum-driven anionic ligand exchange reaction of 2 with ruthenium-benzylidene complex 3 was carried out in mesitylene under reduced pressure (ca. 20 mmHg) to afford the polymer-supported ruthenium-benzylidene complex 4. Ring-closing metathesis of diethyl diallylmalonate 5 in the presence of 4 in CD2Cl2 gave cyclopentene 6 with 100% conversion.
