Significance

Various methods of concentration of CO2 and storing it for use as a raw material are receiving considerable attention as possible ways of reducing petroleum consumption. Many such systems have been developed, including recently reported zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIFs: Banerjee et al. Science 2008, 319, 939). In the report summarized in this entry of Synfacts, the authors report a synthesis of polymers with pendant DBU and DBN moieties. These polymers can trap CO2 under ambient pressure and release it at elevated temperatures.
