Significance
Synthetic recognizers of sugar molecules often tend to possess complex structural motifs including large pockets for binding target molecules. Carbohydrate recognition with simple, acyclic molecules is, therefore, desirable. The authors report synthesis and binding studies of 4(5)-substituted imidazole, pyrrole, and 3-substituted indole rings with various carbohydrates.
