Significance

A very general and efficient procedure for the hydration of organonitriles under very mild conditions using [{Rh(OMe)(cod)2}] as catalyst is presented in this article. The reaction proceeds with tolerance of a broad range of functional groups and with a good preservation of the stereochemical information. This hydration grants a straightforward and general access to a broad range of organonitriles.
