Significance
Primary and tertiary amines were immobilized on the surface of the silica-alumina (SA) support by silane-coupling reactions to give the silica-alumina-supported double-amine catalyst (SA-NH2-NEt2). The reaction of arylaldehydes 1 and nitromethane was carried out with SA-NH2-NEt2 to give the corresponding 1,3-dinitroalkanes 2 in 48-93% yield (11 examples).
