Significance
The authors previously reported the use of sulfonylimidates in base-catalyzed direct additions to imines (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2008, 130, 1804; Synfacts 2008, 375). In this work the alkaline earth metal catalyzed asymmetric addition of sulfonylimidates to imines is investigated. Alkaline earth metals have received relatively little attention despite the advantages their use can provide, such as low cost, ready availability and low toxicity.
