Significance
Polyphenylenes are one of the most studied classes of conjugated polymers and are of high interest in polymer light-emitting devices as a result of their blue emissions. A limitation to these materials has been the relatively low electroactivity of these materials. The ability to efficiently incorporate acceptors into these materials has potential to improve electron-injection properties for device applications.
