Significance
Methylomuralide is a simpler relative of omuralide (by the addition of a methyl at C7), which is the active metabolite of the proteasome inhibitor lactacystin. This synthetic approach to methylomuralide should allow for rapid and inexpensive production of both the racemic and enantiomerically pure compound.
