Significance
In this first report of an iron-catalyzed hydroboration of olefinic substrates, pinacolborane is regioselectively added to a variety of 1,3-dienes in the presence of catalytic amounts of FeCl2. Amongst various ligands tested for this reaction, iminopyridine ligands have shown to be highly effective, affording the borylated alkene products in high yields and excellent E/Z-selectivity.
