Significance
This paper describes a direct chiral bimetallic gold(I)-phosphine complex catalyzed Friedel-Crafts allylic alkylation of indoles with alcohols to give functionalized tetrahydrocarbazoles with good yield and enantioselectivities. A very interesting two-point coordination mode of activation of the allylic alcohol moiety is proposed to account for the success of this reaction.
