Significance

Aryl carboxylates may replace in some cases sensitive and costly organometallic reagents as nucleophiles in decarboxylative cross-coupling reactions. On the other hand, ­stable and inexpensive aryl tosylates are highly ­interesting as electrophiles for this process. This method is particularly useful for electron-poor ­nitroarenes, usually difficult to cross-couple.
