Significance
Palladium cross-linked triangle crystalline catalyst 4 was prepared by complexation of Pd(NO3)2˙2H2O and ligand 3 followed by crystallization. Knoevenagel condensation-cyclization of salicylaldehyde derivatives and active methylene compounds was carried out in the presence of catalyst 4 to give the corresponding coumarin and iminochromene derivatives in up to 80% yield.
