Significance

Polymer-supported phosphonate reagent 3 was prepared by condensation of ­phosphonate 1 and polymer bound alcohol 2 (eq. 1). The Horner-Wadsworth-Emmons reaction of ­aldehydes with 3 gave the corresponding (Z)-α,β-unsaturated esters (Z)-4 in up to 99% yield with high stereoselectivity (eq. 2).
