Significance
The cannabinoid-1 receptor (CB1R) is a G-protein coupled receptor, widely expressed in the CNS and peripheral tissues, that plays an important role in regulating energy balance. MK-5596 is a CB1R inverse agonist that reduces body weight and food intake in obese rats and hence is being developed for the treatment of obesity.
