Significance

(-)-Actinophyllic acid was isolated from the tree Alstonia actinophylla in North Queensland. In this enantioselective synthesis only nine intermediates were isolated. Enantio­enriched (-)-actinophyllic acid was furnished in 18% overall yield (91% ee); the enantiopure form, from recrystallization, in 8% overall yield (>99% ee).
