Significance
The synthesis of 1,3-syn-diol moieties has been extensively studied in organic synthesis, because they frequently appear in natural molecules. This work featured a very unique rhenium-catalyzed synthesis of 1,3-syn-diol acetals in high diastereoselectivities.
