Significance

Polypyrenes were easily synthesized from a novel diamino pyrene derivative and various dicarboxylic acids according to the phosphorylation polyamidation technique. These polymers exhibit solvatochromic behavior, fluorescence in solution and thin films, and display reversible oxidation and reduction processes. In thin films, a notable color change has been observed from the yellow neutral state to purple oxidized state (cation radical) and orange reductive state (anion radical).
