Significance
(S)-(+)-Tylophorine is a phenanthroindolizidine alkaloid that has been shown to arrest carcinoma cells in the G1 phase. The target, and other compounds from the family, have been synthesized previously using a variety of strategies including a Parham-type cyclization, a metal-catalyzed carbonylation, and metal-catalyzed cycloisomerization.
