Significance

The authors report herein the first catalytic asymmetric Roskamp reaction of α-alkyl-α-diazoesters with aldehydes using a chiral scandium catalyst. While rearrangements can sometimes be observed during this reaction, this scandium complex neatly catalyzes the reaction to give α-alkyl-β-keto esters with no formation of side products.
