Significance
Ceria nanoparticles (np-CeO2, particle size 5 nm) catalyzed the reaction of ω-amino alcohols with carbon dioxide (7 bar) in ethanol at 160 ˚C to give the corresponding cyclic carbamates in up to 68% yield (8 examples, eq. 1). In the reaction of N-methyl aminoethanol with carbon dioxide, the catalyst was recovered and reused three times without significant loss of activity.
